JOIN OUR VILLAGE
Become a Play Cousin! When you do you will gain access to a growing network of Black businesses, health care professionals, parents and community members who together are building a village around our children. If you recognize the right of our children to have free, liberated childhoods, and the right of our families to live free, imaginative lives, that fulfill and build on the dreams of our Ancestors... than we also challenge you to believe that WE can make that happen!
As a member you will be invited to participate in our healing circles and action circles. Given the type of membership you apply for you may also be invited to special events and programs like Tummy Time, Teen Leadership Council, or Ages and Stages. If you have a Black Business or are a healthcare professional we encourage you to make another profile for your professional services so our members can access your contact information.
Support The Work
Play Cousins Collective is a grassroots organization founded and led by the people we serve. Directors, employees and board members all have a personal vested interest in the success of our village because their families directly engage and benefit together. This is for us, this is for you. We are the change we want to see. To invest in that change consider giving a donation to our collective efforts.
$5.00 purchases paper and crayons for our Play and Learn Lab lessons.
$12.00 provides care at a local community event for one hour by one of our IYA team members trained in the affirmation and care of our young people.
$20.00 purchases a new book for our Mizizi students or Play and Learn Labs.
$50.00 will cover children's programming for one of our healing circle sessions.
$100 will ensure 10 new Black owned businesses or service providers (therapists, doctors etc.) are added to our directory and marketed to the community.
$150 will provide a partial scholarship to a Mizizi family for one month.
$300 will send a child to Mizizi Homeschool Co-Op for one month where they will see themselves celebrated and lifted toward their greatest possibilities!
WHY PLAY COUSINS?
The challenge is to trust, especially when you don't have enough on your own. TRUST enough to reach out and believe that the person next door has the things that you don't and you have the things that they need! Trust that we are the medicine, the funding, the development...we are the answer. We are releasing fear and individuality and rejoining the village. We are gathering in healing circles, guiding our children by the hand. We are showing up and building spaces where we are safe, free and healthy. Here we will play, imagine and thrive. These are the spaces where we will build a future for ourselves and our children.
We aren't doing anything new. There is no wheel being reinvented. Play Cousins Collective is meant to build extended kin among folks already doing the work. We are telling the story of who we are, and who we have always been. Black people have been here since before Plymouth Rock and we have been surviving, inventing and getting free since forever. There is a thriving Black community in West Louisville and it is our intention to make that known.
Our opportunities and resources are as abundant as we are. Our grandmothers and grandfathers have been gardening in food deserts since before the term was coined. We have been sharing childcare before anyone thought of a co-op. Our ingenuity, healing and resilient practices are Ancestral, they come naturally, all we need to do is connect to one another. Our connection is the key.
